ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATION
A key part of Newcastle’s Urban Renewal and Transport Strategy involved the construction of a new station and transport interchange. To ensure compliance with heritage regulations Artefact was engaged to conduct a comprehensive archaeological assessment and excavation, focusing on both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal heritage considerations.

ARCHAEOLOGY AND BUILT HERITAGE
Artefact was engaged by Arcadis to produce Archaeological and Built Heritage Assessments for a proposed new cycleway to the northern approach of the nationally heritage significant Sydney Harbour Bridge. The new linear cycleway seeks to improve safety and accessibility for bike users and pedestrians, but also supports the future growth in the number of bike users travelling between the Lower North Shore and Sydney CBD.
HERITAGE INTERPRETATION
Barangaroo Station opened in August 2024 as part of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project. Artefact was engaged by Sydney Metro to develop a Heritage Interpretation Plan to inform the design of the station’s precinct plan. Over two years, Artefact worked with Arcadia and Architectus to develop a sensitive and engaging interpretive plan for this significant waterfront site.
HERITAGE ADVISORS
Sydney Metro is a critical step in the delivery of Future Transport Strategy 2056, which will provide fast, reliable and frequent rail service. Artefact's heritage advisors have worked on all portions of the currently planned network including Northwest, Chatswood to Sydenham, Central Station Main Works, Southwest, Greater West and Metro West. As heritage consultants Artefact provided crucial heritage advice to Sydney Metro and its contractors on all stages of the development.
