ALEXANDER PRIEST

With four years of diverse fieldwork experience, from Roman/Iberian archaeology in Portugal's Castello de Cuncos to sites across NSW, I have worked extensively in both Historical and Aboriginal archaeology. As a Heritage Consultant at Artefact, I guide clients on heritage matters and collaborate with my team to develop effective strategies. My expertise in archaeological and heritage studies allows me to deliver detailed reports and conduct thorough historical research, focusing on social and environmental change.

ABOUT

ALEXANDER

I grew up on the Central Coast with a love for history that’s been with me for as long as I can remember. My mum, who worked as an archaeologist in the 1980s, and my dad, who was always talking about the ancient site of Petra, Jordan, inspired me from an early age. I knew I wanted to be an archaeologist, and with their encouragement, I followed that path, graduating from Macquarie University. Throughout my early career in commercial archaeology, I’ve worked hard to bring the best methods to every site I’m involved in and have loved learning from the people and places around me

MY ARTEFACT

I have a deep appreciation for maritime history, which stems from a significant ancestral connection to mariners dating back to the 18th century. One particularly meaningful artefact is this 19th-century ship's bell, cherished by my father for over two decades as his most prized possession. Following his passing, I have kept the bell both as a significant piece of family history and a symbol of my enduring interest in maritime heritage.
